Driving in Italy

Sri Lankans visiting Italy as tourists and intending to drive should obtain an International Driving Permit before leaving Sri Lanka.

Tourists may also use their valid Sri Lankan driver's license if accompanied by an Italian translation issued by one of the following offices of the Italian Automobile Club (ACI):

Resident Sri Lankans: Sri Lanka and Italy has  concluded  an agreement for mutuall recognition of driving licences. The Agreement signed in May 2011 provides for Sri Lankans resident in Italy for a period of less than 4 years and in possession, prior to residency, a Sri Lankan Driving Licence, to apply to convert the Sri Lankan Driving Licence to an Italian licence under the applicable law emanating from the bi-lateral agreement.
