Visas for Journalists /Media Personnel/Photographers/Film Crew

All Journalists /Media personnel/Photographers/Film Crew visiting Sri Lanka should obtain prior visas from the Sri Lanka Embassy in Italy. Applicants are encouraged to submit applications three weeks prior to their departure.

For News coverage :

“Requirements”

a. Duly completed Agreement form  "SLTB selection criteria for journalist/TV crews for Familiarization Tours' form

b.  All media personnel are required to submit  a carnet and a media equipment list taken into the country. The carnet should be submitted to the authorities in Sri Lanka to take the media equipment into Sri Lanka.

c. Write up on previous media work done on Sri Lanka / focus and storyline.

d. Letter from the media organization requesting visa for the visiting journalists giving the purpose of the visit, names and passport details programme/ Itinerary  ,  and contact details of Sri Lankan sponsor, if any .

The visa will be provided after the clearance is granted from the, Public Communication Division, Ministry of External Affairs in Colombo.

All Journalists /Media personnel/Photographers/Film Crew are required to obtain a Media Accreditation Card to engage in media related work on their arrival in Sri Lanka. Please contact the Public Communications Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Republic Building, Colombo 01, (Tel: 00-94 11 2473946, 00-94-112439040, 00-94-112437633 , Fax 00-94-112472488) immediately upon arrival in Sri Lanka. Regulations and other guidelines are subject to change periodically without prior notice. It is essential to check with the Embassy well in advance for the latest applicable regulations, fees and guidelines.

For Filming tourism promotional documentaries:

Requirements:

a.. Duly completed Agreement form  "SLTB selection criteria for journalist/TV crews for Familiarization Tours' form

b. All media personnel are required to submit a carnet and a media equipment list taken into the country. The carnet should be submitted to the authorities in Sri Lanka to take the media equipment into Sri Lanka.

c. Write up on previous media work done on Sri Lanka / focus and storyline

d. Letter from the media organization requesting visa for the visiting journalists giving planned synopsis of the film, duration, locations, the names and passport details ,programme/ Itinerary ,  and contact details of Sri Lankan sponsor, if any .

For Filming of documentaries / feature films:

Filming of documentaries and feature films need prior approval from the National Film Corporation and/or Department of Wildlife, Zoological Department where relevant.

For filming in wildlife-protected areas, prior approval from the Department of Wildlife conservation should be obtained.

Requirements:

The Department of Wildlife Conservation has revised its documentary filming charges as follows with effect from 1st July 2012

Please note that Elephant Transit Homes and Holding Grounds are considered as separate wildlife reserves. Commercial films and Tele dramas are not allowed in wildlife protected areas.
