Firstly, the applicant should obtain a letter from the Department of Motor Traffic certifying the genuineness of the driving license. After that, this letter should be handed over to the Consular Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of Sri Lanka in Colombo for authentication. Finally, this letter together with the following documents should be submitted to this Embassy to obtain the translation.
Documents required: All original documents should be submitted with a photocopy
a. Original Driving license
b. Original passport .
c. Colour photographs [3.5 x 4.5 cm] , taken within 3 months , direct face
d. . Permit of Stay (SOGGIORNO) , if available
e. Relevant fee in Euro
After receiving the application for translation, the Embassy will send a fax to the Department of Motor Traffic requesting their approval to translate the driving license. Upon receipt of the approval from the Department of Motor Traffic , the Embassy will issue the relevant translation. This process takes at least three weeks.
