The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Rome, Italy celebrated Vesak Day at the Chancery premises on 26th of May 2021 with religious observances and a special Vesak Dharmadesana. Sri Lankan community members and the staff of the Mission assembled at the Chancery premises in the evening on the Vesak Day and participated in the Vesak Day religious proceedings in complying with health regulations in the face of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vesak Day religious program was presided by Venerable Katuwana Siddhatta Thero, the Chief Incumbent of Sakyamuni Viharaya, Rome and the religious program included Boodi Pooja, Buddha Wandana and a special Vesak Dharmadesana.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sisira Senavirathne, Charge d’ Affaires of the Embassy highlighted the importance of observing the Vesak in a meaningful manner and emphasized the responsibility that fall upon all of us to practice the Lord Buddha’s universal message of compassion, love, peace and harmony.

The Chancery premise was illuminated with colorful lights, Vesak lanterns, Vesak decorations, Buddhist flags portraying the Sri Lankan traditions of celebrating Vesak.
