The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Rome, Italy celebrated Thai Pongal on 18 January 2023 at
the Embassy premises.

Thai Pongal is the Harvest Festival signifies productivity and prosperity and associating
with the greater happiness of being grateful. The festival is one of the foremost religious
and cultural festivals celebrated by the Tamil community across the globe.
The Sri Lankan community along with the Ambassador and the staff of the Embassy
prepared the Pongal food and a Pooja was performed to invoke the blessing of the Sun
and Mother Nature.
Speaking at the ceremony, HE the Ambassador thanked the Sri Lankan Tamil
community and other Sri Lankan communities for participating in the ceremony as Sri
Lankans and extended his best wishes to the Hindu Tamil community living and working
in Italy. The Ambassador appreciated the Sri Lankans communities living in harmony in
Italy, All national festivals should be celebrated unitedly, Ambassador added.
The Ambassador further stated that as we came together to celebrate this year's
Thaipongal festival, unitedly commit to contributing to the economic growth of our
country to come out of the present economic crisis.
