Temporary passports (Non-Machine Readable Passports – NMRP) are issued by this Mission to the applicants whose passports are expired /damaged or lost enabling them to return to Sri Lanka only, due to an emergency. The applicants cannot travel to any other countries using this NMRP Passports.
Temporary Passports will be issued only after obtaining the approval of the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo and therefore, it will take a few days to issue the Temporary passport.
The applicants who lost/damaged their passports should be required to call over the Consular Division of the Embassy personally and face an interview to obtain the Temporary/Emergency passports.
If requested a NMRP, valid for six months, is also issued for a new born baby as a Stop-Gap Passport until the receipt of new passport which had been applied through this Embassy.
Required Documents
Duly filled Form K -IM 35
4 colour photographs [3.5 x 4.5 cm] taken within 3 months (Direct Face)
Duly completed declaration (Form D) (to be filled by the applicant who lost the passport)
Original Birth Certificate (Translations are not considered as originals)
Sri Lankan National Identity Card (If available only)
Proof of Applicant’s Visa Status – SOGGIORNO (if available)/ or documents to prove that the applicant has not obtained the nationality of any other country.
Confirmed Travel itinerary air ticket
If the passport is lost, the original Police report issued by the Police Station to which complaint was made. (Passport Number of the lost Passport should be included in the Police Report)
