The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Rome marked the World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development at New St. Anthony’s School in Naples on 21.05.2021 with the participation of religious leaders, local Italian authorities, Sri Lankan community members and school children. This event was organized as an integral part of the Embassy’s cultural diplomacy initiative to enhance the multiculturalism of the Sri Lankan community.

The event was celebrated in collaboration with New St. Anthony’s School in Naples bringing all communities together respecting cultural diversity of Sri Lankans, particularly encouraging younger generation to value multi-cultural identity of the Sri Lankan society.

The program was started with the singing of the national anthem followed by multi-religious observances by the religious dignitaries representing Buddhism, Hinduism, Catholicism and Islam.
The students of New St. Anthony’s school presented colourful traditional cultural dance performances demonstrating the multi-cultural and multi-ethnic diversity of the Sri Lankan society.
In his special remarks, Mr. Sisira Senavirathne, Charge d’ Affaires of the Embassy emphasized that respect for multiculturalism is the key for sustainable peace and development and celebrating the World Day for Cultural Diversity would convey the importance of bridging the gap between various cultures for sustainable peace, stability, and development.

The event was attended by the Embassy officials, religious dignitaries from Buddhist Temple, Hindu Kovil, Mosque, and Church; Head of the Immigration, Police Department, Head of the Italian Red Cross in Naples, former Honorary Consuls for Sri Lanka, students, parents, teachers and community members. The invitees were served with Sri Lankan traditional sweetmeat in the conclusion of the event.
